...and her name was iPhone

I am sad to say that Pupster has a new love in his life…and her name is iPhone. Yes, he finally got the phone of his dreams and is constantly poking her full screen touchpad every chance he gets (I could make some more innuendos but I’ll stop here).

SPOTTED: Pup playing with iPhone while ignorning me

SPOTTED: Pup caught in the act with iPhone at the Kings of Leon concert while ignoring me

As an act of retaliation, I decided to create a list of very reasonable iPhone rules and etiquette for Pup to follow.

1. You are not allowed to show affection (kisses, hugs, etc.) if you have iPhone in your hand.
2. iPhone shall not be present at any meals.
3. .....

Unfortunately, that’s as far as I got. But I’m sure I’ll come up with many many more as he continues to choose iPhone over me. Stay tuned….except for you, iPhone, except for you.

Music with Pup and Ninja Kitty: Vol. 1

Since Pup is a MAJOR music fan (some say that he is a "music elitist"), it made sense to add "Music wtih Pup and Ninja Kitty" to the blog. Here I'll tell you what music Pup thinks is cool enough and give you a somewhat detailed account of any concerts we see. So here we go...

The Dead Weather
Mayan Theater
August 26, 2009

The day finally came to see Pup's new band of the month, The Dead Weather (http://www.thedeadweather.com/). The tickets were an anniversary present from myself (see the "One Year Down" post) and I couldn't wait to see my Pupster geek out and swoon from seeing his rock idol Jack White play.

I've gotten the whole Jack White education from Pup, Wikipedia and the movie It Might Get Loud which we saw last week. Let's just say I was well-informed of the amazingness of Mr. White before heading down to The Mayan (http://www.clubmayan.com/) but nothing could have prepared me for this concert.

We'd never been to The Mayan before so we were anxious to see how it was as a music venue. We experienced The Forum last Saturday for the Kings of Leon concert and I was far from impressed--the throngs of meth heads didn't help the situation. The Mayan turned out to be the best venue I've been to in LA.

Here are the reasons I love The Mayan: 1. There was no traffic going there 2. We found free street parking 2 blocks from the theatre 3. Getting a drink was super easy 4. It's more intimate than a lot of venues in LA. 5. The ambiance of a Mayan temple is fun and unique 6. There was no traffic going back

*Many of these reasons have nothing to do with The Mayan (parking and traffic) but it made me a happy little gal.

Doors opened at 8 so we got there exactly at 8 and waited in line. The show was supposed to start at 9 and we guessed that The Dead Weather would just start playing and there would be no opening act. But we were wrong...way wrong.

May I introduce the worst band in the world:

The opening act was the worst band I have ever seen or heard. They reminded me of those high school garage bands that didn't know what the hell they were doing, knew they sounded bad, but still kept playing. I was tempted to start booing them and yell "Get off the stage" but I didn't have enough Jack and Cokes to do so.

But after 2 hours of standing and anxiously waiting and listening to a crappy band, The Dead Weather took the stage...

I was in amazement during the entire concert. Jack White and Alison Mosshart were especially mesmorizing and I appreciated the fact that Jack was drinking from what looked like a champagne bottle during their whole set. Reminded me of college, sigh...

I've also added Alison to my girl crush list. She is such a badass and I love it. She threw her bottled water across the stage, spit wherever she wanted, smoked a cigarette and kicked ass in general. I want to be just like her.

So where was Pup during all this? While I was in my amazement trance, Pup was freaking out behind me and would squeeze the life out of me every time he got excited about a song. He officially named me the best girlfriend ever--a title I gladly accepted.

Dodger Dogs...in Pup's Mouth

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Dodger Stadium
August 18, 2009

After a drunkenly fun lunch with Soner Boner, Penguin, Francine and Jeanette last week, I was excited to discover that Pup scored two tickets to the Dodgers v. Cardinals game. We headed to Dodger Stadium after a hard day's work (I was still buzzed from my Mad Men liquid lunch) for some Dodger dogs, cheesy nachos, overpriced beer and Manny!

The Dodgers pulled out a win furthering Pup's win streak with the team. They've never lost with Pupster being in the stands. I didn't really believe this claim, but the Dodgers played the next night and lost. I guess Pup is a lucky charm afterall.

Or it might be his ballgame ritual....

Pup gained a new man crush by the end of the game--Andre Ethier. He kept saying "Swoooon!" whenever Ethier made a play. I think he's making a trend out of this--he has a new man crush to add to his list almost every day. What to do with that puppy?

Field Trip of Death

Our post-anniversary plans to go to Catalina Island for a day trip got scrapped when we found out it was 65-ish dollars for the ferry. No, thank you, Catalina Island! So Pup and I decided to go out and do something that we haven't done before and that's how we found ourselves at the Arboretum in Arcadia (www.arboretum.org).

The place was absolutely gorgeous with all kinds of flowers, plants and trees and I was able to get some nice pictures of the things we came across.

While exploring the Arboretum, we quickly found out that it is insanely huge. I had made a huge mistake by wearing flip flops. The intense valley heat didn't help our cause and I'm pretty sure I was suffering from dehydration. Pup made a huge mistake by wearing pants. But, even though we were miserable, we powered through Pup and Ninja Kitty style and got through most of the grounds.

I was on my absolute last legs by the time we got to the car. I finally got water into my system when we got to Din Tai Fung (www.dintaifungusa.com) for an early dinner...only after I chugged a can of Sprite. Pup then proceeded to stuff himself on rice cakes with shrimp, pork steamed buns, pork and vegetable dumplings and fish dumplings.

Pretty good day...despite me nearly dying in the SoCal heat.

One Year Down

A little over a year ago, at a little bar called Skinny’s nestled in the heart of North Hollywood, Pup and I met and fell in love. Cue the violins! Cue rose petals magically floating from the sky!

HA! If only it were that easy. That’s not exactly how the story goes, but I’ll stick with it so I don’t sound sad and desperate
considering I put in ALL the work to get that puppy. But in celebration of that momentous day and the beginning of our relationship, I started this blog to chronicle our adventures as Pup and Ninja Kitty. So we’ll begin here…

On August 22, 2009, Pup and Ninja Kitty were officially together for 365 days. A year isn't really that long but it honestly feels like we've been with each other for at least 5--funny how that works. Anyways, we'd been looking forward to our anniversary for a while and the time finally came for us to celebrate.

Overall, we had a pretty low key day since we're both pretty low key by nature. We started the day going to get me a
new fancy schmancy 50mm Nikon fixed lens from Calumet (http://www.calumetphoto.com/). I had been super excited to get this lens for a whole week and I couldn't wait another minute to get it on my camera.

So after Calumet we zoomed out of Hollywood to get some grub from Home (http://www.homelosfeliz.com/). We lucked out with a romantic booth away from any other tables and I finally got to test out my new lens. And may I present the beauty of a fixed 50mm:

Brunch was fabulous as it usually is at Home. I got the crab cakes benedict and Pupster got the steak and eggs.

a
nd we both got Clean Plate awards...

I decided to take advantage of the romantic location to give Pup his final gift...

Tickets to The Dead Weather concert!!

Pup was so surprised and excited especially since The Dead Weather is his band of the moment and Jack White is the man love of his life. The tickets were a great finale to the other two I gave Pup throughout the week.

After getting stuffed with good food, we went back to Pup's house to hang out for a few hours and we discovered a fun new game: Wii Resort!

Pup really getting into the game

Pupster's Mii in action

Pup worked up a nice little sweat before we headed over to Father's Office (www.fathersoffice.com) to have dinner with Mere Bear and Penguin. I don't have any pictures from there but the food was to die for!

And then to top the day off, we went to the Kings of Leon concert, whom we’ve been waiting to see since February. The concert was at the Forum located in the gem of a city called Inglewood. Mere Bear and Penguin had floor seats which Pup and I opted not to get since short little me wouldn't be able to see over the mosh pit. We ended up with fantastic seats with a great view of the stage.

The band rocked the dinky little Forum and, despite some crazy drunk women, the concert was a success! Definitely the
perfect way to end a year together...
